The Historical and Ethnographic expositions of Regional Historical Museum Burgas will join the European Heritage Days 15-18 September 2016 Wednesday, 14 Sep 2016 - GlobalOn the first day of the initiative, the Historical Museum (31 Lermontov St.), in cooperation with the Regional Centre of BAS in Burgas, will present the exhibition "Cyril and Methodius' concept in Orthodox Christianity." It was created by the Cyril and Methodius Research Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the occasion of 1150th anniversary of the Slavic alphabet and the Great Moravian mission of St. Cyril and Methodius. Presented are photocopies of medieval manuscripts, icons, prints, engravings and contemporary books bearing centuries of literary and cultural tradition established by the holy brothers. The exhibition will complement the exposition on writing systems in the museum. Citizens and guests of the city will see it for free on 15, 16 and 17 September.
On Sunday, September 18, visitors can explore free of charge the Ethnographic Museum (ul. Slavyanska 69), where to the end of the month can be visited the exhibition "Wood comes to life - zoomorphic motives in artistic woodworking from Troyan".
Every year more than 20 million people enjoy access to thousands of rarely opened sites and unique events as part of European Heritage Days, which take place every September in 50 countries across Europe. This locally-led initiative is supported by the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
Launched in 1985, the European Heritage Days have been organised since 1999 as a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe, in close cooperation with the group of national coordinators.
