The excavations of the Thracian sanctuary in the housing district "Izgrev" are completed

The archeological excavations of the Thracian sanctuary in the Burgas complex "Izgrev", which were conducted by the Regional Historical Museum - Burgas, have ended. 60 ritual pits have been explored on the site. Numerous animal bones were found in them, which will be subjected to zooarchaeological analysis, and human bones, which will be subjected to anthropological and DNA analysis.

Among the artifacts found at the archeological site are ceramic vessels, fragmented pottery, fragments of amphorae and bronze fibulae, a knife blade and an urn, which is in the process of restoration. A thorough study of the finds is still pending, said the scientific director of the archeological site, assistant Miroslav Klasnakov.

Thracian pit sanctuary is from VI-IV century BC. Rescue archeological excavations at the site started on May 26, 2020 in the area of ​​a construction site for the construction of a future residential building.
