The Ministry of Culture will cofinance the excavations of Rusokastro fortress


Project of Regional Historical Museum Burgas won state subsidy for regular archaeological excavations of the fortress Rusokastro in 2016. The financial support from the Ministry of Culture is 5000 BGN. It is added to the funding of 33 000 BGN provided by Kameno Municipality. The aim is to survey the citadel of the fortress and then to proceed to restoration works of detected structures.

For the first time this year the funding for archaeological research comes from the budget of Kameno municipality that wishes to turn the site into an attractive tourist destination.
The archaeological works will be carried out by a team of RHM Burgas with Head of Research Milen Nikolov, deputy - Dorothea Gyurdzhiyska and consultant prof. Konstantin Totev - known as the head of archaeological studies in Trapezitza - the iconic fortress in Veliko Tarnovo.

Since 2006, RHM Burgas systematically explore Rusokastro fortress, which located on 2 km from the village of the same name in municipality Kameno. In result the specialists revealed the largest fortress in present-day southeastern Bulgaria, with an area of ​​50 dka, fortified with double walls and citadel.
