Regional historical museum Burgas will help old fishermen to find online apprentices

A project of Department Ethnography in Regional historical museum Burgas was approved for funding by the Cultural Heritage Program - sub-program "Intangible Cultural Heritage", which is part of the Bulgarian National Culture Fund. The idea of the museum specialists bears the interesting title "Old fishermen looking for online apprentices" and connects two very different worlds - the vast sea and knitted nets with digital information and the World Wide Web.

For this purpose digital video lessons will be created, which will enable the popularization of fishing practices from the Bulgarian Black Sea coast among people from all over the world. They will also become a bridge between fishing communities from different parts of Europe, struggling to preserve the craft. With the help of modern transmission and visualization technologies, it will create the basis for preserving authentic fishing practices and passing them on to young people.

A year ago the application of RHM Burgas "Knitting fishing tackles: a millennial craft from the Burgas Bay" was registered as an element in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage Elements of the Bulgaria Ministry of Culture. With this, the Burgas Museum and NGO "Morski sgovor" have committed themselves to preserving and promoting the traditional craft from fishermen village Chengene Skele. In search of ways to do this, the museum specialists have found that the most accessible and sustainable way for preserving knowledge about the craft subtleties in our days is by digitization (creating video lessons). This will not only attract the attention of young people from the Digital Age, but will also give access to authentic fishing, which often remains too far from modern technology.
