A new collection of figures of a Thracian horseman is exhibited in Burgas

A collection of seven new bronze figures of a Thracian horseman is exhibited in the hall of the Archaeological Museum in Burgas. The finds are from the II - III century. The figures are thematically related and are parts of compositions composed of three elements - the rider and the horse stepped on a foundation. The foundation, on the one hand, enhances the significance of the presented scene, but on the other hand, it functionally keeps the figures upright. Once upon a time, the old masters soldered the elements of the figurines together with the help of tin with impurities. Time has a destructive effect on the tin and the compositions have separated. That is why the parts usually reach us individually and very rarely a complete composition can be found. For the purpose of exposition and for visual presentation of the three parts, in one of the figures they are collected from different compositions.

One of the objects was discovered during the archeological excavations of the Rusokastro fortress in 2019. Five of the figures have been donated to the museum after a donation from Hachik Papazyan. One of the valuable objects, the one with the most precise workmanship, was discovered in Pomorie in 1970.

The artifacts were restored by Silvia Borisova - a restorer in RIM-Burgas. They will be part of the permanent exposition of the Archaeological Museum.
