Stidovska Mountain, one of the southern spurs of the Eastern Balkan Mountains - which starts from the top Bulgarka over Sliven, ends at a top, that in some geographical studies is marked with the name Podviski. And here, just below the southern foot of this hill, 410 meters above sea level, locates the village of Podvis. A lot is written about the village's history and its traditions , the costumes of its inhabitants, for holidays that they celebrate, but not a word for those who preserve and continues the tradition. For many scholars the activities of community centers and amateur groups destroy the original version of the customs. But if you do not have community centers and amateurs, young people will not know the history and traditions.
A holy day - Epiphany, 06.01, back in 1928, a group of koledari (kuda) is formed, which unlike other kudas did not divide the village. With a notebook and a pencil they go from house to house with a noble quest to raise funds for a library center.
This was the beginning of the community center.
In 1949 began construction of a new library building with its own funds and materials and volunteer labor. On 10.09.1953 the new building was officially opened. In 1961 Community center "Hristo Botev - 1928" was declared exemplary.
The community's ensembles have participated and continue to participate in various festivals and fairs for folk art and traditions: Koprivshtitsa, Petrova Niva, Gramatikovo, Bozhura and more.
In 2011 the community center applied for and won a projects under the initiative "Global Libraries" and to date have 125 readers and 16 000 library document.
And the best part is that by entering the building of the community center "Hristo Botev - 1928", you will be welcomed by the tradition of the village and its inhabitants, put together in the ethnographic collection.
Happy Anniversary! Best wishes for longevity and fruitful cooperation!
