Horo dance Buenets
Lazara, Danica

Buenets [1] is the only dance that is played by the girls during the Easter fast. It is also known as: "Vodeno" ("Led") "Turchano horo". It is rapid open hands dance at a song. The songs for this horo dance are short, Lazarus day horo songs that are performed in different parts of the custom.
The leader of this dance is a girl called "buenets" or "voivoda". She would wind with small steps at the fast pace increasingly to the right. The girl is dancing first face on, then turning back to the direction of movement. She twists and pulls sharply the other girls, so that the turns give tension to break the horo circuit. The tail of the buenets dance is supported by "a tail girl". There are two types of buenets dance: curved and straight. The curved meanders and the straight is played in an open circuit.

For the custom Lazaruvane in Eastern Bulgaria and Dobrudzha buenets is the main dance, which is performed only by girls who expect to get married. Later in the day, the buenets horo dance is joined by two bachelors - one joins at the front and the other one at the end. Then they take the horo dance to the square, where all buenets play together. After the participators separate, they continue the celebration in the homes of the lazarka's leaders with a feast, where they wish for health and fertility.
