For 15 years already, the last day of October marks the anniversary of the Strategic Action Plan on Protection and Conservation of the Black Sea. That's why October 31 was declared International Day of the Black Sea.
In recent years, there is a disturbing trend that the Black Sea ecosystem is highly vulnerable to impacts such as pollution, excessive fishing, unsustainable fishing and coastal development. All these threats can lead to the occurrence of irreversible changes that would transform life throughout the region.

Black Sea is a home of three dolphin species – the Common Dolphin, the Common Bottlenose Dolphin called Afalina and the Harbour Porpoise known in Bulgaria as Mutkur. They are all protected species and are very vulnerable to accidental entanglement in fishing nets and pollution.

Mr. Gradimir Gradev, who is an expert from the Federation of nature-conservation NGOs "Green Balkans", will hold a multimedia presentation under the title "Dolphins in the Black Sea and methods from their research." The lecture will begin at 14:30 in the hall of the Natural History Museum in Burgas.

Exhibition Coppersmith’s art of Old Shumen in Burgas
Thursday, 15 Sep 2011 - Ethnographical Museum

On September 16th at 11:00 Opening of the exhibition "Coppersmith’s art of Old Shumen".
The exhibition of Regional museum Shumen presents the coppersmith as a craft typical for the old town of Shumen in the past 150 years. On display are boilers, pots, jugs, blue ibrits, containers for warm water to extract essential oil and others. The copper vessels have been decorated through fine filigree work with elements of flowers, birds, lace and assemblages.
Тhe coppersmith craft in Shumen developed at the end of the 18th century and reached its peak in the 19th century. A number of travelers mention Shumen’s craftsmen as “masters renowned for their workmanship throughout the whole Ottoman Empire”. Coppersmith’s work was a distinctive feature of the Bulgarians and their copper vessels were always hand-made. The exposition also includes several traditional Bulgarian folk customs, as well as some applied art pieces.
