Natural-History Exposition - Burgas, collections, scientists, donors
The first step was made in 1962 when it was decided to set up a department called "Nature" in the structure of the Regional History Museum - Burgas. The first curator in this department was Mr. Manol Manchev. In 1973 the “Nature” department was converted into Natural-History Exposition. For this purpose, it was provided with own building - monument of culture, situated on 30 Fotinov St. Followed a long process of creating systematic collections, reflecting the biodiversity of the region, accents were the tertiary flora of Strandzha region and bird diversity in the migratory route "Via Pontica"
By the opening of the Natural-History exposition in 1985 the museum had on display 1699 artefacts, 102 photographs, 229 drawings and 31 maps. Both dioramas and all three bio-groups in the exposition have been donated by Alexander Prostov.

Today, Burgas Museum of Natural History is spread over three floors, where you can find on display thematic exhibitions "Minerals", "Vegetation", "Amphibians and Reptiles, Insects", "Birds", "Mammals" and "New residents". In the exposition work 3 specialists.

In 2005 everyone’s favourite exhibition "Minerals" was assembled on the ground floor of the museum, resembling the large mineral variety in the earth subsurface. The collection shows the world's mineral diversity, as well as specializes on the Bulgarian and local(Strandzha ore region) mineral and ore deposits. More about

In terms of plant diversity, Burgas region is interesting mainly because of the vegetation in Strandzha forests, which preserved unique species from the Tertiary to the present day. Scientists call them Tertiary relicts. Alluvial and psammophytic vegetation contribute to the flora diversity of the region. Their representatives can be seen in the museum collection. More about

The Black Sea coast along the Burgas region includes some of the hottest spots in Bulgaria. There have been 10 species of amphibians and 27 species of reptiles identified in the Burgas region, some of which are very rare in the country's fauna. The collection of birds in the Natural History exposition Burgas is very rich, emphasis is placed on the birds’ diversity in the region. In the museum halls you will meet globally threatened, waterfowl, raptors and many other types of birds as well as collection of eggs divided into two groups – nidifugous and nidicolous. More about

The third floor is home to the mammals’ collection. In the museum halls you can get acquainted with a number of different species of mammals: predators, rodents, insectivores, bats, lagomorphs and artiodactyls. More about
