On February 13, 2025, at 11:00, in the conference hall of the Ethnographic Museum-Burgas at 69 Slavyanska Street, a lecture will be presented that will trace the development of the Burgas Museum in the second half of the twentieth century, and its main role in the study and preservation of cultural heritage in the Burgas region. Excavations of key archaeological sites, scientific research and significant personalities who contributed to the establishment of the museum as a leading regional cultural and scientific center will be presented. After the Liberation, Burgas laid the foundations of its museum work, and first of all, archaeological research in the region. In 1912, the Debelt Archaeological Society was founded, which works to preserve and study ancient cultural values in the region. Despite the interruptions caused by the wars, active museum activity resumed in 1925. In the following decades, the museum established itself as a leading local cultural and scientific center, conducting archaeological excavations, presenting museum exhibitions and conducting scientific research. After World War II, the institution was transformed into a city, district and, since 2000, regional history museum for the entire Burgas region.
