From Saint Nicholas to Santa Claus

On the occasion of St. Nicholas Day (Nikulden), the patronal feast of Burgas, the Burgas History Museum will present the exhibition “From Saint Nicholas to Santa Claus.” Visitors will be able to explore the exhibition from 1 December and learn about the patron saint of the seaside city in an accessible and engaging way.
The museum specialists aim to present informative content about the life of Saint Nicholas, the protector of all those connected with the sea, fishing and banking. Special attention is given to the different traditions associated with his feast day across various regions of Bulgaria, as well as in other countries around the world. The exhibition also traces the transformation of the veneration of Saint Nicholas into the modern commercial image of Santa Claus.

Every day during the festive week, from 1 to 5 December 2025, the History Museum in Burgas, located at 31 Lermontov Street, will offer students a special educational talk related to the exhibition. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the icons of Saint Nicholas displayed in the museum.
